West Valley High School Principal, Shaun Kraska, Named Alaska Secondary School Principal of the Year

skFairbanks, AK – Shaun Kraska, principal of West Valley High School in Fairbanks, has been selected as the Alaska Secondary School Principal of the Year by the Alaska Association of Secondary School Principals. Principal Kraska has served as principal at West Valley High School for eight years.

“We appreciate her immense approachability. I see many students from across the spectrum of West Valley utilize her as a resource, as a bridge between teacher and student, student and peer, and students and their families,” said a West Valley High School student who wrote an essay for Principal Kraska’s application.

Principal Kraska shared that culture and tradition is what makes her school distinctive. “Red and gold, our school colors and the reflection of our spirit and pride shows in all that we do. Students, staff and parents will all share that the energy at WV is infectious – we are a school of excellence, we set the bar high and then we support our school community in their efforts to attain personal achievement and excellence in all that we do.”

Principal Kraska will be honored during the 2016 Alaska Principals Conference. The Alaska Principals conference will be held at the Anchorage Sheraton Hotel October 23-25, 2016. This year is the 50th anniversary of the conference and will feature keynote speakers Jimmy Casas and Christopher Kai.
